Don’t miss your chance to check out what is happening in the puppet world of Pittsburgh. All ages are invited to the Pierogi Power Puppet Slam, a community celebration much like a poetry slam which will feature 12 short shows using all kinds of puppets. Think: Hand puppets, rod puppets, marionettes, life-sized puppets, giant puppets, toy theater puppets, animatronics and ventriloquist dummies. Attendees will also be able to try out puppets, and even buy a puppet to take home.
Puppeteers Tom Sarver and Scott KuechenmeisterHall will host a line-up of shows that will include performances by Cheryl Capezzuti and Kellee Van Aken from Fuzzy Boundary Productions, The Bwak Choir (Bonnie Bogovich, Sean Lenhart, Steph Miller and Brandon Guillot), a scene from Super Smash Opera (Bonnie Bogovich and Jim Newsome), Gwen Bowman of Pittsburgh Puppetworks, Darlene Fedele Thompson of Puppets in Performance, Yulia Gray’s Puppets on Broadview, Mugwort Forest with Sarah Banach, Pastime Puppets with Bob Dayton plus Kirsten Ervin, Renee Rabenhold and Felicia Cooper. There will be comedy, singing, dancing, great story telling, pieces of culture and history, and audience participation. The show starts at 7:00 but if you get there when the doors open at 6:30 YOU can greet the crowd as a giant puppet!
